Canyamel

Canyamel

Canyamel is situated at seven kilometres from Cala Ratjada, between Cap des Pinar or des Raix and Cap Vermell. It is a valley through which the torrent with the same name flows the whole year, where ducks and marine birds live, and next to Serra de Sant Jordi and Puig Negre. This touristic and residential area is located nearby a wetland formed by the torrent in its mouth. The beach is beautiful and you can also visit the Coves (caves) d Artà (450 metres wide and 310 metres long), the second in Majorca, situated in the cliffs of Cap Vermell and visited by Jules Verne, Victor Hugo or Alexandre Dumas and others. This fine-grained golden sandy area is very crowded by local visitors and tourists.

Torrent de Pareis

Torrent de Pareis

Experienced and fit hikers with walking boots will enjoy this difficult and somewhat dangerous hike that leads them to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The best season is from May to September, but even then the canyon may be full of water from a heavy rainfall, requiring you to swim through some parts! It is slightly easier to hike uphill from Sa Calobra to Escorca because the climbing passages are easier in the ascent, but you can also start from Escorca and have the bus from Sa Calobra bring you back up. There are ropes left in the climbing parts, but it is better to bring your own in case. If you’re in for a physical challenge with amazing views this hike is for you, but be careful! There have been accidents and recues for inexperienced hikers here!

Puig Major

Puig Major

Being the highest peak in Mallorca (1,445 km), this difficult hike is physically challenging and the views from the top do not disappoint. There are various places to begin the hike from and you can choose the level of difficulty. Both ways have a few ropes to assist with the inclines, and after climbing to the top you have the stunning views of all of Mallorca you can see, and also end up right next to the military base at the top. The descent is more challenging, rocks falling as you climb down can be a hazard, but going with experienced other hikers will make it an unforgettable experience.
