Torrent de Pareis

Torrent de Pareis

Experienced and fit hikers with walking boots will enjoy this difficult and somewhat dangerous hike that leads them to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The best season is from May to September, but even then the canyon may be full of water from a heavy rainfall, requiring you to swim through some parts! It is slightly easier to hike uphill from Sa Calobra to Escorca because the climbing passages are easier in the ascent, but you can also start from Escorca and have the bus from Sa Calobra bring you back up. There are ropes left in the climbing parts, but it is better to bring your own in case. If you’re in for a physical challenge with amazing views this hike is for you, but be careful! There have been accidents and recues for inexperienced hikers here!

It has soaring delicate columns and a beautiful rose window. The Cathedral Museum is next to it, displaying Gothic art and gold work. Around it lies the historic Old Quarter of the city, worth visiting not only for its old buildings but also the lovely courtyards of many of the aristocratic mansions. Palma is a town of many courtyards. The churches of Santa Francesc, Sant Miquel and Santa Eulàlia are Gothic buildings of great beauty and ornate interiors. Contributions by artist Miquel Barceló consisting of a large ceramic mural, stained glass windows and fixtures can be visited in one of the chapels of Mallorca's Cathedral. This avant-garde proposal was promoted by the late Bishop Teodor Úbeda and supported by various institutions under the auspices of the Art a la Seu Foundation, which has not been free from a debate similar to the one surrounding Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí in the early twentieth century, just one more reason to visit this magnificent landmark, one of Europe's most brilliant Gothic buildings.

Coll Baix

Coll Baix

The route begins in Victoria, in the north of the island and following a forest rail hikers will first see a lookout point called “Ses Tres Creus”, which offers a scenic viewpoint over the Bay of Pollença. The hike then passes through Talaia d’Alcúdia (445 m), and then leads you to the hill road of Es Coll Baix. On the mountain peak you can see ruins from an old 16th century tower destroyed in 1936. You can also see two buildings where soldiers sought protection during the air raid alarms of the Spanish Civil war. This unspoilt beach is one of Mallorca’s hidden gems and is well worth the hike.
